Short pieceChoreographyPerformance
A performative exploration of an outdated, elitist Switzerland through the framework of a tennis match.
Inspired by the physical arm movements of the dance style “Waacking,” the two dancers draw a parallel between these gestures and the movement of hitting a tennis ball. Tennis is traditionally associated with more affluent, elite circles. The game itself is rooted in perfect order, backed by prestigious sponsors, and often represents wealth and prosperity.
Waacking on the other hand originated in the LGBTQ+ clubs of 1970s Los Angeles, emerging from Black and Latino queer communities as a form of self-expression, resistance, and liberation.
